The Mahmoud Ribadu Square in Yola was a scene of immense celebration on Saturday as Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing Adamawa Central and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology, rolled out a massive multi-million naira empowerment program.
The event saw the distribution of a vast array of economic assets designed to stimulate growth across the seven Local Government Areas of the zone, including Hong, Gombi, Song, Girei, Yola North, Yola South, and Fufore. The items distributed included:
60 Cars
170 Electric and Gasoline Motorcycles
70 “Carry Go” Tricycles
30 Keke Napep Tricycles
100 Sewing Machines
50 Refrigerators
50 Solar Water Pumps for farmers
50 Electric Generators
Senator Aminu Iya Abbas while addressing the beneficiaries reaffirmed his dedication to the people who elected him.
”My mandate is a sacred trust. Today is not just about giving out items; it is about providing the means for our people to stand on their own feet,” the Senator stated. “I have heard your cries and seen your needs. These tools are meant to turn you into entrepreneurs.
I charge you to use them for the intended purposes to better your families and our communities. We are not just distributing equipment; we are planting seeds of self-reliance that will flourish across Adamawa Central. I assure you of my continued commitment towards delivering on every campaign promise made to the electorate.”
Representing the State APC Party Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Madagali, the State Welfare Officer of the Party, Alhaji Isa Bagalci expressed the party’s pride in the Senator’s performance.
”The APC is proud of Senator Abbas. He is a man of the people who has consistently touched lives. This empowerment proves that he is not just a Senator of words, but a Senator of action and a true hopeful for our state’s future,” Bagalci declared, noting that the Senator’s “technocratic precision” has set a high bar for legislative representation.
Dr. Adamu Babikkoi, Special Adviser to the Governor of Adamawa State on Good Governance, described the initiative as a perfect alignment with broader development goals.
“Senator Abbas has proven himself to be a leader who understands the pulse of the people. This intervention is a masterclass in people-oriented representation that directly supports our goals for poverty reduction and economic stability,” he remarked.
On his part, Alhaji Salihu Baba Ahmed, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, emphasized the Senator’s connection to the grassroots.
“Senator Abbas is a man of the people because he listens and then acts. From education to science and technology, and now this massive economic boost, he has shown that he is the leader Adamawa Central and indeed the state needs for continued progress,” Ahmed said.
Speaking earlier the chairman of the local organising committee of the program, Chief Alexander Barunde, ACG (Rtd), also lauded the scale of the intervention.
“It takes a man who truly loves his people to invest this heavily in their survival. We are witnessing a revolution in representation here today,” Barunde noted, describing the Senator as a selfless leader.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, representative from the transport group Shamsudden Bello and Joshua Bernard expressed deep appreciation, stating, “For many of us, owning a vehicle or a tricycle was a distant dream. Senator Abbas has not just given us machines; he has given us a livelihood. We promise to utilize these items to grow our local economy and support our families as intended.”
