The Hospital Paupers Fund Yola (HPFY) has spent over ₦89.5 million on the treatment of 3,036 indigent patients at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, between 2015 and 2025.

The committee disclosed this during courtesy visits to media organisations across Adamawa State to strengthen collaboration and seek wider publicity for the humanitarian initiative.

Established in 2015, the Fund was created to support patients who cannot afford medical bills. Since commencing operations in 2016, it has relied on donations from individuals, corporate organisations, government agencies, traditional institutions and philanthropists to settle hospital bills for vulnerable patients.

Among its major supporters are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Lamido Adamawa, the Adamawa State Government, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), traditional rulers, corporate bodies, and several public-spirited individuals.

The committee noted that while the number of indigent patients continues to rise, available resources are gradually being depleted, making public support more critical than ever. It also commended Federal Government healthcare interventions, including the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) and the NHIA’s Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) programme.

HPFY expressed appreciation to media organisations for supporting its awareness campaign. Managements of ABC Yola, Pulaaku FM, Sunshine FM, USAKO FM, ATV Yola, Gotel Communications and Ray Power FM Yola pledged to provide sustained publicity for the Fund as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The committee appealed to individuals, organisations and philanthropists to donate generously to sustain the life-saving initiative.
