The Adamawa State Agribusiness Support Programme (ADASP), in collaboration with Dangote Sugar Refinery, the Savannah Community Liaison Department, and the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), has intensified efforts to promote sugarcane out-grower schemes aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ livelihoods across the state.

The stakeholders’ engagement, held in Savannah and Numan, brought together traditional rulers, district heads, and community leaders from Numan and Lamurde Local Government Areas to discuss strategies for strengthening cooperation and ensuring the successful implementation of the sugarcane out-grower programme.

Speaking during the meetings, participants emphasized the need for strong alignment among ADASP, Dangote Sugar Refinery, the Savannah Community Liaison Department, and the National Sugar Development Council to facilitate the programme’s implementation and enable more farmers in Adamawa State to benefit from commercial sugarcane production.

Traditional rulers, including representatives of the Numan and Lamurde Traditional Councils, district heads, and youth leaders (Sarakunan Matasa), pledged their support for the initiative, promising to mobilize their communities to embrace the programme and create an enabling environment for its success.

The stakeholder engagement forms part of Dangote Sugar Refinery’s broader community outreach programme targeting five Local Government Areas, with the objective of expanding sugarcane cultivation, creating employment opportunities, improving household incomes, and contributing to Nigeria’s drive towards self-sufficiency in sugar production.

The meetings concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to work together in ensuring that farmers across the targeted communities fully benefit from the opportunities provided by the sugar value chain, thereby promoting sustainable agricultural and economic development in Adamawa State.
