Troops Kill Top Boko Haram Commander, 10 Terrorists in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recorded a major operational breakthrough with the elimination of a top Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Abu Khalid, alongside 10 other terrorists during a decisive night operation in Borno State.
A press statement on verified Facebook account of the Nigeria Army, indicates that
Abu Khalid, identified as the Second-in-Command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, was neutralised when troops of Sector 1, working in close collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) under Operation DESERT SANITY, engaged terrorists at the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area at about 11:00 p.m.
The successful operation came barely 24 hours after troops eliminated another notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, who had been operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle, underscoring sustained pressure on terrorist leadership structures in the North East.
Military sources described Abu Khalid as a key figure within the terrorist hierarchy, responsible for coordinating operations and logistics across the Sambisa axis, making his elimination a significant setback to terrorist activities in the region.
Following the encounter, troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, magazines, several bicycles, assorted logistics and food supplies, as well as large quantities of medical consumables believed to have been used by the terrorists.
No casualty was recorded among own troops during the operation. Military authorities said the morale of troops remains high as clearance and domination operations continue across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other known Boko Haram and ISWAP hideouts in the North East.
The Joint Task Force (North East) reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the current operational tempo until all terrorist elements are neutralised and lasting peace and economic stability are fully restored to the region.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery, sacrifices, and unwavering dedication in the ongoing fight against terrorism and other criminal activities, urging them to maintain the momentum.
