The Adamawa State Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P) has launched a strategic planning collaboration with key stakeholders in the meat value chain to strengthen Nigeria’s Halal meat supply system.
The meeting, held at the ADAS-P office in Yola, brought together the management of Yola Abattoir, leaders of the Butchers Union, and representatives of Hala Meat Processors, with 14 participants in attendance, reflecting a strong commitment to building a more efficient, sustainable, and market-driven sector.
Opening discussions, Dr. Abdullahi M. Zaram stressed the urgent need for structured collaboration to improve quality, efficiency, and sustainability across the value chain.
ADAS-P Chief Operating Officer, Alhaji Yunusa Ibrahim Gafai, reaffirmed institutional support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of stronger linkages among livestock farmers, abattoir operators, and processors.
He called for the development of a project concept document to guide implementation and identify key areas of impact.
The Yola Abattoir management welcomed the initiative, highlighting recent hygiene improvements, including the installation of a biogas digester by L-Press, which has replaced the use of rubber tires and charcoal, significantly enhancing processing conditions.
The Chairman of the Butchers Union also pledged full cooperation, while urging clear role definitions to ensure smooth execution.
The meeting concluded with key resolutions, including strengthening the sheep and goat supply chain, and mandating the submission of reports by April 7, 2026, ahead of a follow-up engagement to finalize partnership terms.
