FG Disburses Farm Inputs, Machinery as ADAS Programme Pledges Solution to Water Scarcity for Dry-Season Farmers in Adamawa

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has disbursed farm inputs and machinery to dry-season farmers under a special intervention programme, with a promise from the Adamawa state Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P) to tackle persistent water shortages affecting irrigation activities along Njuwa lake in Yola south LGA of Adamawa State.

The event, held at along Njuwa farm lands in Yola South, brought together representatives of federal and state agricultural agencies, traditional institutions, and farmer associations.

Speaking at the occasion, Imam Ibrahim, Chairman of the Njuwa Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., appealed for stronger support from ADAS-P, the Adamawa State Ministry of Agriculture, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, and other agencies.

Imam stressed the urgent need for additional boreholes, noting that the five boreholes currently serving the farms in the area are inadequate for the increasing number of dry-season farmers.
“We need more inputs, more machines, and more water sources. The boreholes we have are too few for our farming population,” he said.

Imam Ibrahim thanked the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for the assistance provided, assuring that the farmers would ensure judicious utilisation of the inputs and machinery to boost productivity.

Representing the Federal Ministry, Muhammad Bakari Ahmed urged beneficiaries to use the materials strictly for the intended purpose, adding that responsible use would pave the way for more government interventions and improved yields.

The ADAS-P delegation, led by its Chief Operating Officer Yunusa Ibrahim Gafai, reaffirmed the programme’s commitment to partnering with the Njuwa farmers.
Gafai disclosed that ADAS-P would deploy technical experts to tackle the community’s water challenges.

Accompanied by His assistant who is also the head of Component II, Mr. James Birdling, Gafai says
“We will bring professionals to study and solve the water problem in this area and establish an efficient water system for sustainable dry-season farming,” he assured.

Representatives of the Adamawa State Commissioners for Agriculture and Water Resources also pledged continuous collaboration to strengthen agricultural production in the state.

The event was attended by officials from the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, the Adamawa State Government, and the Adamawa Emirates Council, all of whom expressed readiness to support the farmers.

The intervention is expected to boost dry-season farming, enhance food security, and strengthen federal–state partnership in agricultural development.

Items distributed includes over 50 Sprayers, Water Pump Machines among others.
