Adamawa NUJ Inaugurates Ethics and Disciplinary Committee to Strengthen Professional Conduct

In a move aimed at promoting accountability and professionalism among journalists, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has inaugurated a three-man Ethics and Disciplinary Committee to oversee adherence to union standards and constitutional provisions.

The initiative, according to the NUJ leadership, aligns with the union’s constitution and is designed to guide members in the ethical discharge of their journalistic duties.

Speaking during the inauguration, the State Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, emphasized that the committee’s role goes beyond enforcing discipline. He said it will also serve as a platform for reconciling differences among the various NUJ chapels within the state, fostering unity and mutual respect in line with the union’s constitution.

> “With the calibre of professionals appointed to this committee, I am confident that the desired results will be achieved,” Comrade Abdullahi stated.
“I urge members to bring their experience to bear and operate strictly within the constitutional framework of the NUJ.”

In his response, the newly appointed Chairman of the Committee, Comrade Bashir Liman, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the members, assuring that the committee would discharge its duties with fairness and integrity.

> “We will justify the trust placed in us and ensure that our work reflects the ideals and constitution of the NUJ,” Liman said, while calling for cooperation from members and the state executive.

Other members of the newly inaugurated committee include Victoria Taduwokai, who will serve as a member, and Ismail Mohammed, who was appointed as the secretary.

The establishment of the committee marks another step by the Adamawa NUJ in institutionalizing ethical journalism and strengthening internal governance within the union.
