Adamawa NUJ sympathises with Bauchi council over journalists’ auto crash

The Adamawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sympathy with its Bauchi State counterpart following a motor accident involving journalists, in which several members sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The accident occurred on Friday along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, as the affected journalists were returning from an assignment organised by the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

The assignment was led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, alongside other top government officials.

In a statement issued by the Council’s leadership,and signed by the Adamawa NUJ state chairman Abdullahi Ibrahim and the state Secretary Kissinger Bukardescribed the incident as unfortunate and painful, noting that it came at a time when journalists continue to make significant sacrifices in the course of their professional duties.

The Council said the affected journalists are dedicated professionals whose commitment to duty reflects the risks often associated with the practice of journalism.

While commending the resilience and courage of the injured journalists, the Adamawa NUJ prayed for their speedy and full recovery. It also extended heartfelt prayers to their families, colleagues, and the Bauchi State NUJ leadership, urging them to remain strong during the challenging period.

The Council further called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to prioritise the safety and welfare of journalists, especially during official assignments, to prevent future occurrences.

It reaffirmed its solidarity with the Bauchi State Council, stressing that the NUJ remains one indivisible family bound by shared professional values and mutual care.
