Adamawa Police Arrest Victim’s Brother as Prime Suspect in Gombi Murder, Recover AK-47

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested the younger brother of a slain businessman, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, as the prime suspect in his murder, recording what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state.
Police identified the suspect as Abubakar Sadiq, 40, a resident of Boga Village in Gombi Local Government Area, who was arrested following credible intelligence by operatives attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, working in collaboration with professional hunters.
According to the police, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga was killed on January 20th 2026. During interrogation, Abubakar Sadiq reportedly confessed to his involvement in the killing, allegedly carried out with the support of five accomplices.
The suspect subsequently led security operatives to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in the attack, as well as 24 rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigations led police to two alleged accomplices Jalo Hamiyu, 35, and Umar Baba, 41 both from Fotta Village, Gombi LGA.
A joint security team comprising police operatives, hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force reportedly moved to arrest the duo on the same day.
Police said the suspects opened fire on the operatives in an attempt to evade arrest, resulting in a gun battle during which the two men were neutralised.
Additional weapons recovered at the scene included one locally made single-barrel rifle and one Dane gun, police said.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network who are currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), commended the officers involved for their gallantry and professionalism, reiterating the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and useful information to aid security operations.
Police authorities said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
