Buratai Calls for Urgent Action, Says Wike’s Conduct Threatens National Security

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), has raised alarm over the recent altercation involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, and a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the incident as a clear threat to national security and institutional integrity.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Buratai condemned Wike’s verbal confrontation with the military officer during a field visit in Abuja on November 11, 2025, calling it “an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of our nation’s command and control structure.”
He said the minister’s outburst “deliberately undermines the chain of command, disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, and wounds the morale of those who serve under the Nigerian flag.”
Buratai warned that such actions cannot be dismissed as political drama, stressing that they amount to “reckless endangerment of national order” and “an indication of undermining the federal government’s authority.”
The former army chief called on Wike to tender an immediate and public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the officer involved in the incident.
