Farmers and key stakeholders in the agricultural sector in Adamawa State have expressed optimism about supporting the candidature of the APC Governorship Candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Galadima, in the 2027 governorship election.
The declaration was made on Sunday at the Bridgewood Hotel, formerly Lelewal Hotel, Yola, during the Agenda 21 Farmers’ Engagement and Agricultural Policy Dialogue, organised by agricultural commodity associations to provide a platform for farmers across the crop and livestock value chains to present their concerns and expectations to the APC candidate.
The engagement, themed “From Farmers’ Demands to Government Commitments: Building a Productive, Profitable and Sustainable Agricultural Economy in Adamawa State,” focused on developing a farmers-driven agricultural agenda and securing clear policy commitments on issues affecting the sector.
While briefing the APC gubernatorial candidate on the agenda of the gathering, the Convener of Agenda 21, Alhaji Sadiq Umar Daware , expressed optimism that farmers would support Galadima’s candidature, stressing the importance of making farmers an integral part of his administration’s policies and programmes if elected.
Daware called on the candidate to ensure that farmers are adequately represented and consulted in the formulation and implementation of policies, noting that the agricultural sector remains critical to the state’s economic development, food security and job creation.
Various speakers at the event, including members of the Agenda 21 Advisory Board, Adamawa State APC Chairman Alhaji Hamza Bello Madagali, National Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Goronyo, and representatives of other commodity associations, highlighted the importance of supporting farmers with the necessary resources and policies to enable them to increase production and improve their livelihoods.
They called for greater access to agricultural financing, irrigation, mechanisation, improved inputs, markets, storage and processing facilities, as well as stronger support for livestock production and agribusiness. These priorities are reflected in the 21-point Farmers’ Agenda presented during the engagement.
Responding, the APC Governorship Candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Galadima, appreciated the farmers for their confidence and support, assuring them of his commitment to creating an enabling environment for farmers to thrive if elected governor.
Galadima said agriculture would require deliberate attention and practical policies capable of improving farmers’ productivity, income and access to opportunities, while assuring stakeholders that their concerns would receive due consideration.
The engagement ended with the presentation and adoption of the Agenda 21 Farmers’ Charter, providing a framework for sustained dialogue between farmers and government.
The gathering marks a significant effort to move agricultural discussions beyond campaign promises towards structured engagement, clear commitments and accountability. With farmers demanding a greater role in shaping policies that affect their livelihoods, Agenda 21 has opened a new platform for building stronger collaboration between the agricultural community and political leadership in Adamawa State.
