Yelwa Primary School Alumni to Celebrate 60 Years of Excellence, Pledge to Give Back to Alma Mater

As Yelwa Primary School, Jimeta, in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State approaches its 60th anniversary, preparations are in top gear for a grand celebration aimed at giving back to the institution that shaped generations of leaders.
The National Caretaker Committee of the Yelwa Primary School Old Pupils Association convened a crucial meeting at the school premises, drawing together former pupils spanning from the 1974 set to recent graduates. The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia and camaraderie as old classmates reunited after decades apart.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Caretaker President, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma Ilyasu, emphasized that the party gathering was organized to unite all graduating sets under a single national body.
According to him, Yelwa Primary School alumni can be found not only across Nigeria but also in various parts of the world.
He disclosed that the planned anniversary celebration would serve as an avenue to appreciate the invaluable contributions of past teachers, alumni, and community members who have supported education in the area.
Alhaji Danjuma, a former Adamawa State Commissioner for Land and Survey, underscored that the responsibility of funding and advancing education should not rest solely on government, but must be a shared effort involving corporate organizations, NGOs, and alumni bodies.
On his part, the Chairman of Yola North Local Government Council and fellow alumnus, Barrister Ibrahim Jibrin Jimeta, called on members to honor the legacy of their alma mater by giving back through community service, support for girl-child education, and infrastructural development within the school. He noted that such gestures would not only strengthen the institution but also inspire future generations.
“The gathering is a reminder of our shared roots and a call to collectively build a stronger foundation for the school and our community,” Barrister Jimeta remarked.
In a nostalgic reflection, Mallam Umar Usman, the school’s first Head Boy, expressed pride that Yelwa Primary School has produced an impressive array of distinguished individuals — including professors, doctors, administrators, permanent secretaries, military and paramilitary officers, and accomplished politicians.
Other alumni members praised the vision behind organizing the upcoming anniversary, commending the efforts to elevate the association to national prominence. They also paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers and teachers of the school for their dedication to nurturing excellence — a legacy that continues to benefit both the graduates and society at large.
The 60th anniversary celebration, expected to feature a series of commemorative events, will highlight the school’s historical impact on education and community development in Adamawa State and beyond.
