Persons Living with Disabilities Demand Inclusion in State Employment Exercise

The Adamawa state government has been urged to ensure inclusivity of persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in the ongoing employment exercise across ministries, departments, and agencies.
Chairman of the Adamawa Youth Disabled Network, Mr. Billy Henry, made the call while fielding questions from “The Trumpet News” correspondent. He stressed that the government should give equal opportunity to all citizens, regardless of physical challenges, in order to promote fairness and inclusivity.
Henry noted that people living with disabilities possess skills and talents that can contribute meaningfully to governance and development if given the chance.
Corroborating her appeal, Ms. Penina Oliver said many qualified persons with disabilities are often sidelined during recruitment processes, a trend she described as unfair and discriminatory is some states, but believe that Governor Fintiri’s administration will continue giving them the needed support and opportunities.
“Let government give us a chance to showcase our talents. We are sometimes left behind, yet we can perform wonderfully despite the challenges we face,” Oliver said.
She recalled that discrimination was common even during her school days, stressing the need for a deliberate policy that protects the rights of persons with disabilities in employment and education.
The group assured that with the right support and inclusivity, persons with disabilities can contribute effectively to the progress of Adamawa State.
