The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Adamawa State Chapter, has held a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening unity, promoting professionalism, and enhancing collaboration among members as preparations gather momentum for the forthcoming state election.
The meeting brought together key executives and stakeholders of the association to discuss issues affecting sports journalism in the state and to chart a path toward a more vibrant, united, and progressive chapter.
Deliberations focused on the upcoming election, members’ welfare, capacity building, ethical sports reporting, and increased participation in sporting activities across Adamawa State.
Speaking during the meeting, veteran sports journalist, Victoria Tadawakai, emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility in advancing the objectives of the association. She urged members to remain committed to the ideals of professionalism, mutual respect, and teamwork in the discharge of their duties.
The meeting also reviewed plans and strategies for effective coverage of sporting events across the state, while reaffirming the association’s readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders in promoting sports development.
The National Welfare Secretary of SWAN, Mr. Austine Ajayi, expressed optimism that a united and focused membership would contribute significantly to the growth of sports and sports journalism in Adamawa State.
Similarly, the immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, Mr. Ishaka Donald Dedan, spoke on the way forward for the association and stressed the need for members to remain actively engaged in sports reportage.
Mr. Dedan commended both past and present leaderships of SWAN for their relentless efforts toward the growth and upliftment of the Adamawa State chapter.
Members also appreciated the outgoing Chairman of SWAN, Adamawa State Chapter, Mr. Samuel Gangwaja, for his tremendous support, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the growth, unity, and development of sports journalism in the state. They wished him continued success and greater achievements in his future endeavors.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by members to work collectively toward building a stronger, more cohesive, and progressive SWAN chapter in Adamawa State. It also resolved to constitute the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Electoral Committee (SWANECO) to conduct the forthcoming state election.
