The Kainuwa Adamawa and Former Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engineer Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, has officially declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Yola North, Yola South, and Girei Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration took place at Makama B Ward in Yola South Local Government Area, where hundreds of party faithful, supporters, and well-wishers gathered in a show of solidarity.
Speaking during the declaration, Ahmad said his decision to join the race was driven by a clear commitment to serve the people and build on his track record in public service.
He highlighted his previous role as Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, noting that he facilitated impactful projects across several communities, including within the constituency.
According to him, his experience at the federal level positions him to deliver meaningful development if elected to represent the people at the National Assembly.
He outlined key priority areas to include infrastructure, power supply, rural electrification, and water provision, stressing that these sectors are critical to improving livelihoods across Yola North, Yola South, and Girei.
Engr Ahmad maintained that his past performance in public office distinguishes him from other aspirants, urging voters to assess candidates based on their records and capacity to deliver.
“The clear difference is what one has done when given the opportunity, and what one intends to do with another opportunity,” he said, adding that he is ready to prove himself again.
On his motivation for contesting, Kainuwa described himself as a lifelong public servant, noting that he rose through the ranks in government from a junior officer to a managing director.
“All I know is public service. I have always believed that working in government provides the platform to create impact, and I am seeking the people’s support to continue that service,” he stated.
Responding to supporters who described him as the best candidate for the position, Engr Ahmad said while such views are encouraging, he remains focused on earning the trust of the electorate.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence in securing victory for the party in the state.
As part of activities marking his declaration, the aspirant, alongside his entourage, visited the APC offices in Yola South, Yola North, and Girei Local Government Areas, where he reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the party and its members.
Some critical stakeholders who spoke at different points during the event described Ahmad as a true son of Adamawa who has used his previous office to transform communities both within and outside the state.
They pledged their unflinching support to ensure he actualises his political ambition for the overall development of Yola North, Yola South, and Girei Federal Constituency.
The event marks the formal entry of Ahmad into what is expected to be a competitive race for the Yola federal constituency seat in 2027.
