ADAS-P, PAWECA Join Forces to Tackle Unemployment in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P) has initiated a strategic partnership process with the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA) to support the state government’s drive to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance among citizens.

The collaboration , aligned with the development agenda of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, is aimed at creating sustainable economic opportunities through agribusiness and skills development.

Speaking during a meeting at the PAWECA office in Yola, the Chief Operating Officer and Lead Consultant of ADAS-P, Alhaji Yunusa Ibrahim Gafai, said the programme focuses on the commercialisation of agriculture, enhancing productivity, and strengthening market linkages for farmers and agripreneurs.

According to him, ADAS-P operates across five key subsectors: livestock, crops, aquaculture, forestry, and horticulture. He explained that the programme also supports small-scale poultry farmers, including backyard operators, through access to inputs, finance and facilities hatcheries.

“We are creating platforms and systems to integrate PAWECA beneficiaries into agribusiness value chains, link them to markets, and build their capacities for sustainable income generation,” Gafai said.

The COC added that the programme is also targeting retirees, noting that a sum of ₦1 billion has been earmarked to support their participation in agribusiness activities.

In his remarks, the Director-General of PAWECA, Hon. Dr. Michael Zira, welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to collaborate with ADAS-P to achieve shared objectives.

“We are glad to partner with ADAS-P and will work closely to reduce unemployment and reorient the mindset of our people towards self-reliance,” he said.
The partnership is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts by the Adamawa State Government to empower citizens, boost agricultural productivity, and drive inclusive economic growth.

Both side delegate a focal person to come up with policy document that will lead to signing a Memorandum of Understanding before the partnership kickstart.
